Chevrolet Camaro and Camaro Z/28

Chevrolet Camaro stars at New York Motor Show 2013
The Chevrolet Camaro is an interesting sight on the roads and when you see one in the metal it's easy to see why. It's not that it doesn't look good – because it's every inch the American muscle car dream. It's just that it's – well – rather on the large size.
And it's not exactly subtle underneath either, with a whopping great 6.2-litre V8 engine at the front and rear-wheel drive for some classic tail-sliding action. The standard car gets a mild facelift here at the 2013 New York Motor Show, but Chevrolet has also unveiled its awesome new Camaro Z/28 track-focused model, pictured here.
Chevrolet Camaro: what's hot, what's not
It's very much a refresh rather than a revamp for the fifth generation Camaro, but it's long overdue since the current car arrived in 2009. There's a redesigned front bumper, a new grille and some subtle tweaks to the rear end.
But the big news is on the inside where Chevrolet has worked hard to improve the quality – always one of its weakest points. As well as that, few cars offer so much power for so little money.
When can I buy a Chevrolet Camaro? How much will it cost?
The current car is available for £35,285 (approx. $53,350), with the convertible starting at £40,285 ($60,900). Few cars offer so much power for so little cash.
There's no word on when the revised Camaro will be made available, but if it does, it will be in left-hand drive guise only. As for the Z/28, bank on having to import one of those yourself.
What are the rivals for the Chevrolet Camaro?
It's hard to put the Camaro into a single category. It's current price point means it's up against the likes of the BMW M135i, the new Audi S3 Sportback and Mercedes A45 AMG. All of which will undoubtedly offer higher levels of refinement and greater driving finesse. The Camaro Z/28 is a proper American muscle car, so competition will come from the likes of the SRT Viper, Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
Few cars offer such a unique identity. Drive a Camaro and you will get noticed. Children will take photos of your car and you'll become well known in your street. If that's your kind of thing, the Camaro could be for you.
